What can you do with a movie editing software?

I would recommend Adobe's Premier Elements (version 3 was released recently). This is a less expensive version of Premier Pro (approx. $700-800) that should be less than $100. It is simpler to use, but does not skimp on features. I have both Premier Elements and Pinnacle's Studio and PE is much more stable (less crashes). Among many features, it does allow multiple video tracks that would permit the effect you mentioned.

I want to know what you can do with movie editing softwares such as pinnacle studios and adobe premiere. Can you add special effects like making stuff float, shooting things out of wands, surround someone with light, basically special effects and all that?
